Keghi in Ruins, Osep Tokat’s loving tribute to his birthplace, the County of Keghi, in historic Western Armenia, is a large-size, fully illustrated volume written in three languages: English, Armenian, and Turkish. The book provides a wealth of information about Keghi, encompassing its history, culture, and traditions. The text includes detailed demographic and cultural data about the pre-1915 Armenian communities of the City of Keghi and numerous towns and villages across Keghi County, as well as their horrific destruction during the Genocide. The book also includes special sections about the dialect and cuisine of Keghi.

Printed on high-quality stock, Keghi in Ruins is a visual tour de force, featuring full-color photographs of Keghi locales taken during the author’s years of travels and research in Keghi, rare historic photographs representing the Armenia art and culture of the region, and a large-size map drawn especially for this volume.

About the author: Osep Tokat was born in Jermag, a village in Keghi, and grew up in Istanbul, where he graduated from the Getronagan National School and received his higher education, specializing in economics. After moving to Los Angeles in 1985 with his family, Tokat dedicated himself to community and public life, serving with the Organization of Istanbul Armenians of Los Angeles, the AGBU, and the Pyunik Sports Association for Disabled Children, among other organizations.

In 2005, Tokat published his groundbreaking work Armenian Master Silversmiths in Los Angeles. In 2010, the book was also printed in Turkey. The author has donated all proceeds to teachers in Armenia.

Osep Tokat is the recipient of the St. Grigor Lusavorich Medal, conferred by Catholicos Karekin II for his decades of dedication to Armenian schools and the Armenian Church; the Fridtjof Nansen Gold Medal for his humanitarian work; and the Armenian Ministry of Culture’s Gold Medal for the volume “Armenian Master Silversmiths.”

Հեղինակի մասին – Յովսէփ Թօքաթ ծնած է Քղիի Ճերմակ գիւղը եւ հասակ նետած՝ Պոլիս, ուր շրջանաւարտած է Կեդրոնական Ազգային Վարժարանէն եւ ապա բարձրագոյն ուսումը ստացած, մասնագիտանալով տնտեսագիտութեան մէջ։ 1985-ին իր ընտանիքին հետ Լոս Անճելըս հաստատուելէ ետք, Թօքաթ վարած է ազգային-հասարակական բեղուն գործունէութիւն, իր ծառայութիւնը բերելով Լոս Անճելըսի Պոլսահայ Միութեան, Հայկական Բարեգործական Ընդհանուր Միութեան, եւ Փիւնիկ Հաշմանդամ Երեխաներու Մարզական Միութեան, այլ կազմակերպութիւններու շարքին։

2005-ին, Թօքաթ Լոս Անճելըսի մէջ հրատարակած է աննախընթաց երկլեզու գիրք մը՝ «Հայ Արծաթագործ Վարպետներ – Armenian Master Silversmiths» խորագրով։ 2010-ին, գիրքը հրատարակուած է նաեւ Թուրքիոյ մէջ։ Հեղինակը գրքին ամբողջ եկամուտը նուիրած է Հայաստանի մանկավարժներուն։

Յովսէփ Թօքաթ Գարեգին Բ. Կաթողիկոսին կողմէ պարգեւատրուած է Սբ. Գրիգոր Լուսաւորիչ Շքանշանով՝ հայ դպրոցներու եւ եկեղեցւոյ երկար տարիներու իր նուիրման համար. ան արժանացած է նաեւ Ֆրիտիոֆ Նանսէն Հիմնարկի Ոսկեայ Շքանշանին՝ իր մարդասիրական գործունէութեան համար, եւ Հայաստանի Մշակութային Նախարարութեան Ոսկեայ Շքանշանին՝ «Հայ Արծաթագործ Վարպետներ» հատորին համար։
