My grandmother, Pergruhi Sahagian-Alahaydoyan, a witness of the Armenian Genocide, died on February 1, 2006, of old age. Shortly after her death, we discovered my grandfather, Hovsep Alahaydoyan's memoirs, which he was planning on publishing in a book. Approximately one year later, in 2007, Hrant Dink was assassinated. With fury I was determined to do something about this injustice; I asked my mother one day, 'What can I do to make a difference? Her response was, 'Do whatever prominent Armenians do. Talk about the genocide; write about it; wherever you go, whatever you do, mention the Armenian Genocide so that everyone learns about the truth'. I took her advice that day and decided to write about my grandparents and their journey from Urfa and Germir, to Beirut and include the memoirs of my grandfather that had recently been discovered.
