Azo the Slave Boy and his Road to Freedom

Papken Injarabian was born in Amasia (Turkey) around 1906. During the Armenian Genocide his family was deported alongside other Armenians. Papken's parents were killed during these deportations, two sister were abducted on the road, and two brothers disappeared while serving in the Ottoman army. Left alone, Papken fended for himself and survived for three years, until the end of the war, when he fled to Syria and then Lebanon. He eventually settled in France where he struck new roots. Azo the Slave Boy was originaly written in Armenian and then translated into French. This English translation is based on the author's original notes in Armenian.
