In September 8, 1996, His Holiness Karekin I, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, consecrated the sacramental oil—known as Holy Muron—which is used in Armenian churches throughout the world. Holy Muron is employed in sacraments like baptism and ordination to represent the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. In this half-hour video—filmed in the Republic of Armenia—Archbishop Khajag Barsamian describes the significance of the Holy Muron, as documentary footage and re-creations of scenes from the Bible and Armenian history show how the Holy Spirit has worked through the Armenian People. The expressionistic direction of Vicken Chaldranian—one of Armenia's leading filmmakers—brings this mystical understanding of the Holy Muron to dramatic life.
