Derenik Demirjian

Derenik Demirjian (1877-1957) was born in the Armenian city of Akhalkalaki in Georgia. Acclaimed in his lifetime for his comedy Nazar the Brave and his novel Vardanank, after his death he was memorialized in the Derenik Demirjian State Literary Prize. James R. Russell is the Mesrob Mashtots Professor of Armenian Studies at Harvard University and the author of Zoroastrianism in Armenia, Hovhannes TIkurantsi and the Medieval Armenian Lyric Tradition, and The Heroes of Kasht: An Armenian Epic.
