Description
Henry Morgenthau was the United States Ambassador to Ottoman Turkey between 1913 and 1916. His wartime memoir, Ambassador Morgenthau's Story, is one of the most compelling accounts of the Ottoman involvement in World War I. Morgenthau was an astute observer throughout this period, not least because he was trusted with the affairs of nine countries as the war progressed. His memoir now constitutes an invaluable resource for historians.

In 1915 Morgenthau bore witness to the Armenian Genocide. While he gathered first hand information from his consuls in the interior of the Ottoman Empire, he confronted Ottoman leaders about their treatment of Armenians. Ambassador Morgenthau's Story has become an indictment against the Ottoman Turks for the genocide of Armenians.
